The Queen\u2019s home in Norfolk<\/strong> was originally purchased by King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, in 1863.\u00a0

Although, the carefully and expertly designed formal gardens were not created until 1947<\/strong>.\u00a0

Geoffrey Jelicoe created the Royal Gardens for King George VI.\u00a0

You can see the results of his designs if you visit the gardens which are open April-October<\/strong>.\u00a0

The best time to visit the formal gardens is late July<\/strong> when butterflies make them their home.\u00a0

The woodland garden at Sandringham<\/strong> is home to rhododendron, camellia and magnolia.\u00a0

5. Castle and Garden of Mey<\/h2>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
This Royal residence is less famous than many others.\u00a0

But its Royal Gardens are no less gorgeous.\u00a0

Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother bought Castle Mey in Caithness<\/strong> in 1952.\u00a0

She arranged for it to be renovated and for the gardens to be landscaped.\u00a0

The gardens have changed very little since that time.\u00a0

If you visit today<\/strong>, you will see shrub roses, marigolds, pansies, dahlias, primulas, and nasturtiums in all their splendour.\u00a0

The gardens are only open for three days each year<\/strong>, in aid of Scotland’s Gardens Scheme, so make the most of your visit.\u00a0

6. Highgrove House<\/h2>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
The Prince of Wales has been heavily involved in designing the impressive Royal Gardens<\/strong> that surround the official residence of him and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall.\u00a0

If you\u2019re lucky enough to visit there are several features to look out for<\/strong>:\u00a0

The stumpery with tree stumps, ferns, and sculptures carved from wood.\u00a0
Box hedges and delphiniums in the Sundial Garden.\u00a0
