Why Should We Help Insects?<\/h2>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"text-block text-size-small col-1\">Our friends at Buglife, and the folks at Kent Wildlife Trust, carried out the <strong>Bugs Matter Citizen Science Survey<\/strong>. <br \/><br \/>They asked people to count the number of insects splattered against their vehicle number plates. <br \/><br \/>They then compared the results with those of a similar survey in 2004. <br \/><br \/>The comparison indicated a <strong>58.5% reduction in flying insects <\/strong>in the UK between 2004 and 2021<br \/><br \/>You can look at the <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.buglife.org.uk\/2022\/05\/Bugs-Matter-2021-National-Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><mark class=\"has-inline-color\" style=\"background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);\">full <\/mark><\/a><span style=\"color: #ac6357;\"><mark class=\"has-inline-color\" style=\"background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);\"><a course, this measures a small section of the overall insect population. <br \/><br \/>But it&#8217;s a good indicator of the wider situation where research suggests that around <strong>40% of the world&#8217;s insect population could become extinct<\/strong> within a few decades.<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"gallery-block\">\r\n<figure class=\"gallery-block__item\"><img dead plants and animals and keep the environment clean. <br \/><br \/>There are many reasons for the <strong>decline in insect numbers<\/strong>. <br \/><br \/>Causes include the use of pesticides and \/><br \/>The initiative aims to <strong>create insect pathways<\/strong> across rural and urban areas. <br \/><br \/>It does this by developing <strong>wildflower-rich habitats<\/strong> that act as
